A Study of Socio-Environmental Factors on Psychological State and Quality of Life of the Elderly

Abstract
This study is to depict influence of the objective environment on self-esteem and helplessness; effect of leisure, information and education, residential environment, medical care, and connectedness. Moreover, analyze the correlation between such psychological status and the life quality of seniors, along with identifying specific needs and influential matters. Consequently, this study is expected to serve as a contribution in analyzing the senior market. The result of the empirical analysis through the structural equation model is summarized as follows: The correlation between the objective environment which affects the quality of life and self-esteem, and medical care in the objective environment showed positive results on the self-esteem of seniors. Throughout the residential environment, self-esteem had the largest influence followed by connectedness, medical care respectively. In the relation between helplessness and elements related to the quality of life, information and education, residential environment and connectedness appeared to have influence on helplessness. According to the relation between the quality of life and self-esteem of seniors, it is identified that self-esteem had influence on both the affective quality of life and cognitive quality of life. Also, it is depicted through the comparison of path co-efficiency that the cognitive quality of life is more influenced than affective quality of life. In the relation between the quality of life and helplessness, the results indicated that helplessness has equal influence on both affective and cognitive quality of life.
